Our Story

My home pottery studio on Camano Island is a serene space where the natural beauty of the surrounding sea and mountains deeply influences my work. The textures of ocean waves and the rugged contours of the nearby peaks are echoed in the shapes and finishes of each piece. Earthy tones and organic forms reflect the landscape, while subtle glaze variations capture the shifting colors of water and sky. This connection to the environment shapes every stage of my creative process, making each item a quiet tribute to the island’s unique and inspiring setting.

Sgraffito pottery is a decorative technique where the surface layer of a pot is scratched or carved to reveal a contrasting color beneath. This method allows artisans to create intricate patterns and detailed designs, enhancing the texture and visual appeal of the pottery. Originating from various ancient cultures, sgraffito remains popular today for its unique combination of artistic expression and craftsmanship. The process involves applying layers of colored slip or glaze, then carefully etching the design before firing, resulting in durable and striking pieces.
